Your Facelift Procedure Explained

As we age, both men and women alike lose collagen, the thing that gives skin its elasticity. We also lose facial fat, causing our appearance to look deflated, saggy and wrinkled. A facelift addresses and improves those lines and sagging skin of the face including the sides of the mouth and jowls.

In order for you to better understand the facelift procedure, here is a breakdown of what actually takes place and how it can help you look 10 to 15 years younger.

Consultation

As with every procedure we offer, your process begins with an individualized consultation with our double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jason Champagne. During your consultation, Dr. Champagne will offer his expertise and create a plan of action that is best for your individual needs and goals and figure out if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Also, as facelift procedures have become more focused (Facelift, Midface Lift, Necklift), Dr. Champagne is able to target problem areas depending on the greatest need and what will give you the best results possible.

The Procedure

Dr. Champagne utilizes a natural tissue layer which he elevates under the skin to achieve a refreshed and more youthful look. With this technique, there is no tension placed on the overlying facial skin, and therefore, an operated or “windswept” appearance does not take place. Incisions are well-hidden in natural creases around the ear, and all excess skin is removed while tightening and re-suspending the muscle layer beneath.

Recovery

Before your surgery, you will be given a list of medications to avoid and other preoperative and postoperative instructions. The facelift healing and recovery period range from 2 to 4 weeks. Generalized facial swelling and bruising are expected, and swelling diminishes over the first two weeks. Bruising can last up to 4 weeks but can be disguised with makeup. A bulky dressing is worn for 24 hours followed by an elastic, compressive bandage for the first seven days. The compressive headband is then worn nightly for the next two weeks. Sutures are removed over the course of seven days as are small clips in the hairline. Dr. Champagne personally guides you through your healing process at all postoperative visits to ensure a smooth, optimal recovery, and most patients can return to work after 10 days to two weeks.

Follow Up

One of the many reasons that Dr. Jason Champagne is considered one of the top aesthetic facial plastic surgeons out there is because of his care and concern for each of his patients. He will personally see you multiple times during the first few weeks after surgery to ensure you are healing properly and guide you through your recovery. In addition, months after performing procedures, he will follow up with you to be sure you are healthy and happy. He creates an atmosphere of comfortability you can count on and assures his patients will get the best all-around care possible.
