What is best for wrinkles: Dysport® or Botox®?

With so many options out there to combat the natural aging process, we’ve gotten a lot of questions regarding two of our most popular injectables, Dysport® and Botox®, and which is best for wrinkles and fine lines. Although both are best used periodically within a regular skincare regimen, there are a couple of things to know to begin your research on which is best for your individual case.

Dysport® and Botox® are both FDA approved for reducing and even preventing the appearance of mild to moderate facial wrinkles, but Botox® is considered the industry standard because of its high use within the media and cosmetic industries. That said, it doesn’t necessarily make it better for wrinkles.

Typically, Dysport® is used to treat the vertical lines between your eyebrows (glabella) and the areas on the sides of your eyes (crow’s feet) that are considered more moderate to severe, but it is also used to treat forehead lines as well as other areas of the face and neck. These wrinkles are known as dynamic and Dysport® injections temporarily prevent muscle contractions that cause wrinkles, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. In other words, no frozen look, just natural-looking results. You can control your look instead of your look controlling you.

While Botox® can also help reduce these same frown lines, it is more widely used on the face and can provide long-term improvement in skin texture with consistent maintenance.

Deciding whether which is best for wrinkles also relies highly on the person performing the injections. Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jason Champagne has perfected a microdroplet technique to administer the injections that allow him to hyper-focus on problem areas to give you successful, natural-looking results. He is able to preserve your facial expression as well as diminish those unwanted facial lines by working with your individual features for both corrective and preventative measures without giving you that “windswept” look.

So deciding whether Dysport® or Botox® is best for wrinkles, there is no singular answer. It depends on the individual and their specific goals.
