Recovery Times For Our Top Procedures

Throughout the consultation process, every one of our patients always ends up asking the same question: how long is the recovery? Naturally, each one of our procedures differs in recovery time with many factors affecting how long it will take someone to completely heal. Factors like age, health, lifestyle habits, and even skin type – depending on procedure – can all have an effect on how long it will take you to recover from any one of our offerings. Compiled by expert double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jason Champagne, the following are recovery times for some of our most popular procedures.

Champagne Brows – Eyebrow Hair Transplantation

The downtime for an eyebrow hair transplant is typically extremely minimal (on average 1-2 days) with minimal bruising and/or swelling if any. Small scabs will be present around each hair graft within the eyebrows for up to 10 days following your procedure. You should begin to see results (your own hair growing in) typically 3-4 months after the procedure because of the natural hair cycle process.

Custom Jaw and Chin Implants

Customized chin and jaw implants are placed through incisions inside the mouth as well as a small, usually 1 cm incision under the chin. A soft diet is required for the first week after surgery, and sutures placed in the mouth during surgery will dissolve on their own. Small sutures under the chin are removed after 5 days. Swelling is expected postoperatively. The majority of swelling will resolve over the first three to four weeks, but as with any procedure that results in swelling, final results may not be seen for up to 9 months. Bruising, if it occurs, typically resolves within two weeks. Mild to moderate discomfort can be expected for three to four days and is controlled with prescription medication. Antibiotics are also prescribed for 1 week after surgery. You will most likely be mobile the day of your surgery and should be able to return to normal activity within the first week, but strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided for two full weeks.

Hairline Lowering

After a hairline lowering (also known as a forehead reduction) procedure, there can be minimal to moderate swelling in the forehead and scalp, and sometimes around the eye or cheek area. Most swelling diminishes over the first several days and is completely resolved within the first couple of weeks after surgery. Mild bruising can also occur around the eyes, but this is normal and does not interfere with vision. Numbness or reduced sensation should be expected around and just behind the hairline. This is temporary and is expected to resolve within the first few weeks to months but can last up to 6-9 months in some instances. Many patients are healed enough to go back to work after a couple of days and can use a scarf, head band or large hat for camouflage. Sutures placed at the hairline are removed by Dr. Champagne after one week.

Customized Facial Contouring Filler Treatments

Generally, all filler treatments are associated with a minimal recovery period but can vary slightly depending on the type of injectable used. Localized swelling and redness typically resolves within an hour except in the lips where swelling can last several days. Keep this in mind when planning around important events. Bruising varies amongst patients and can last for several days if it occurs. Routine maintenance treatments are required, and results are typically apparent from 6 months to 2 years and beyond depending on the area of treatment and type of filler utilized.
